Kim Yong-Ku

Abstract
The effect of cesarean section on growth and development of infants has been studied and the following results were obtained.
1. Incidence of cesarean section delivery among 1328 births was 14.25%, with 2.95% of repeat section.
2. The highest cesarean section rate was noted in the maternal age between 25 and 29 years (49.51%) and age of 30 to 34 years the second in order (27. 1%).
3. Cesarean section rate was slightly higher in the primipara (58%) than multipara (42%) and the highest incidence in para I (28%).
4. Main indication for cesarean section delivery was cephalo-pelvic disproportion (29%), previous
cesarean section (17%), premature rupture of membrane (8.48%) and placenta previa (8%).
5. The babies born by cesarean section weighed between 3000 to 4000 gm at birth were in 69.3%
6. The most of the babies born by cesarean section (77.39,) showed high one minute Apgar
scores (8-10).
7. Increment of baby¢¥s weight for babies born by repeat cesarean section was not significantly different from those of babies born by normal vaginal delivery or primary cesarean section.
8. There was no relationship between the cesarean section and development of motor, language and social behavior during the first year of life.
